ROLE

Volunteer Trainer (Headstart)

 

PRIMARY DUTIES OF VOLUNTEER TRAINER

 

  1. Selection of the Participants
  2. Coordinating the 7 skills workshops for the participants
  3. Coordinating the career development journey of the participants
  4. Writing a progress report which must be submitted to the Program Officer
  5. Administering the robust skills workshops and career and education workshop evaluation framework
  6. Managing the Applications process for external opportunities for the students
  7. Facilitating the Business challenge workshop

SECONDARY DUTIES OF VOLUNTEER TRAINER

  1. The design of the skills workshops – the selection of the techniques to achieve the goals and the steering of group processes
  2. Understanding the participants and the workshop content prior to planning the workshop
  3. Following a step‐by‐step process to clarify assumptions and focus the workshops on the specific objectives of the sessions
  4. Making adjustments to the workshop design—structure and learning activities—as needed for the situation
  5. Sharing first‐hand practical experiences with the participants to extend their learning and understanding
  6. Leading follow‐up and evaluation of the learning, collecting feedback on the event and tracking learning, during and after the workshop
  7. Providing additional examples of concepts and case studies to guide and support participants’ learning

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Program Manager (Headstart)

TIME COMMITMENT OF VOLUNTEER POSITION:

  1. 8 HOURS A WEEK (MINIMUM)
  2. 12 HOURS A WEEK (MAXIMUM)
  3. SATURDAYS ONLY, REQUIRED BETWEEN 9.00AM-5.00PM (FULL DAY)
  4. EVERY WEEK FOR THREE-FOUR WEEKS

LOCATION(S) FOR THE VOLUNTEER POSITION

ABUJA

ASSIGNMENT

Trainers will be assigned to schools based on proximity to the location and days of preference

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Presentation – communicating ideas, using visual and other aids, giving feedback, listing skills
  2. Facilitation – managing activities, eliciting contributions and learning, creative and innovative thinker, ability to create an atmosphere of confidence among participants.
  3. One-to-one – coaching, counseling, mentoring, advising, assessing
  4. Consultancy – investigating, advising, evaluating
  5. Design – designing activities, e-literate, knowledge of group development, including the ability to sense a group’s mood and change methods or adjust the program on the spot.
  6. Interpersonal – building relationships, ability to handle conflict, trust in other people and their capacities, respect for the opinions of others, does not impose ideas on others, adaptable.
  7. Assertiveness – confidence, challenging and supporting.
  8. Expertise and Interest – knowledgeable, insightful, up to date, enthusiastic about being a trainer.

OTHER ABILITIES

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  2. Proficiency in cloud software applications (Skydrive, DropBox, Google Docs)

QUALIFICATION

  1. A university degree in any field
  2. Previous experience in training or facilitating workshops, sessions etc. This could be part time, as an intern, as a volunteer or full time.

Openings for A4AI Forum

Hello fam!

Two volunteers are needed to assist the Web Foundation team on the 1st Alliance For Affordable Internet (A4AI – http://www.a4ai.org) Nigeria Multi-stakeholder Forum, which will take place in Abuja at the Chelsea Hotel – Central Area on Tuesday, 11th March 2014. A4AI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Communication Technology (MCT) in October 2013. The MoU calls on A4AI to support Nigerian stakeholders in contributing inputs towards the development of policy and regulation designed to reduce the cost of Internet services and increase access in Nigeria.

A4AI is a diverse global coalition committed to driving down the cost of Internet access in less developed countries. The Forum will draw together a wide range of key stakeholders, including the Minister of Communication Technology, the Hon. Omobola Johnson; senior officials from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); sectoral Ministries and other government agencies; industry representatives; leading Nigerian academics and researchers; civil society organizations; and members of the media.

The volunteers would be helping with event registration and other logistical tasks throughout the day. They are happy to reimburse for travel costs and there will be breakfast and lunch. Report time: 7:30am

Knowledge Is Not Enough, Skill Is King By Rise Networks

Each year, only 40,000 out of the over 400,000 Nigerian graduates who pass out of the NYSC scheme get employment. Furthermore, only about 20 percent of the 40,000 graduates who get employed are in their desired place of work.

These are clear indications that the employment capacity of the country is inversely proportional to available job seekers. Openings for rapporteurs in Calabar

The 2013 Africa CEO Roundtable & Conference on CSR (AR-CSR™), a continent-wide CEO Round-table and Conference on  Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility is scheduled to take place between June 20-21, 2013 at the Tinapa Business Resort, Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria with the theme, ‘Driving Innovation through Transformational Leadership & Sustainability’.

Openings for Youth training facilitators in Lagos

A youth engagement project of the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative of the US Consulate General Lagos has partnered with us to facilitate the recruitment of 35 credible volunteers for its upcoming Leadership and Entrepreneurship training of students of public secondary schools in Lagos. The goal of the initiative is to reach 1000 students in 5 public secondary schools.

IDEAL PROFILE OF VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers should be:

– Passionate about teaching Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Social Change
– Available for 6 Wednesdays between October and November 2013
– Available for 2 Saturdays in August 2013 (for training).
Volunteers may fall into any of these 3 categories:
– Working class professionals who can spare 3 hours every Wednesday for 6 weeks between October and November
– Entrepreneurs who manage/run their own businesses and have flexible schedules
– Students who run their own businesses or have ran a business in the last two years
NOTE: Previous facilitation experience and experience working with youth will be an added advantage. Volunteers would be subject to assessment to ensure they are a good fit.
VOLUNTEER REWARDS
Volunteers will:
