ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

The core role of the Policy and Research Analyst is to research documents on education and employability and strategically analyze findings in line with guiding policies in order to make informed ideologies. The Analyst has to be abreast with educational trends so as to up scale the Foundation’s educational policies.

The duties of the Policy and Research Analyst are highlighted below:

Methodology

  1. Gathering Data, Research Educational Policy and Trends & Identify relevant stakeholders
  2. Diagnose the problems and gaps where intervention is required
  3. Research innovative tools, resources and policies deployed in other developing countries such as:
    1. Kenya
    2. Ghana
    3. South Africa
    4. India
  4. Provide findings to the team to find ways of addressing the problems

 

Aims

  1. Conducting analysis, summarising and explaining research finds and their implications for our resource section
  2. Providing data for our baseline expansion to other states
  3. Producing policy and advocacy papers
  4. Producing opinion pieces
  5. Producing videos and podcasts

Volunteer Trainer (Headstart)

 

PRIMARY DUTIES OF VOLUNTEER TRAINER

 

  1. Selection of the Participants
  2. Coordinating the 7 skills workshops for the participants
  3. Coordinating the career development journey of the participants
  4. Writing a progress report which must be submitted to the Program Officer
  5. Administering the robust skills workshops and career and education workshop evaluation framework
  6. Managing the Applications process for external opportunities for the students
  7. Facilitating the Business challenge workshop

SECONDARY DUTIES OF VOLUNTEER TRAINER

  1. The design of the skills workshops – the selection of the techniques to achieve the goals and the steering of group processes
  2. Understanding the participants and the workshop content prior to planning the workshop
  3. Following a step‐by‐step process to clarify assumptions and focus the workshops on the specific objectives of the sessions
  4. Making adjustments to the workshop design—structure and learning activities—as needed for the situation
  5. Sharing first‐hand practical experiences with the participants to extend their learning and understanding
  6. Leading follow‐up and evaluation of the learning, collecting feedback on the event and tracking learning, during and after the workshop

II. VOLUNTEER MENTOR

What will I be doing as a Professional Career Mentor?

  1. Provide on-going career advice to the assigned mentee/student participant before the Open Day (mandatory): In particular, we ask that the mentor aid the mentee to achieve the following:
  1. Map out future career options
  2. Map out university choices and course options
  3. Map out subjects required for the course in WAEC and NECO
  4. Map out JAMB subjects required for course choice
  5. Map out weak subjects that students require help in
  6. Internship options – date, company, location, duration etc. – you may offer internships yourself or recommend others
  7. Advice on relevant qualifications for the intended career and help with providing information towards attaining these qualifications
  8. Share experiences and guidance on what is required to become successful in the career interest including suggestions on
  9. Internships/work experience
    1. Opportunities for secondary school students in the chosen discipline/career path
    2. Extra-curricular activities
    3. Materials e.g. guides on ‘coding’ programming etc.
    4. Useful exercises to develop and cultivate their interests
  10. Attend the Career Mentoring Open Day in April 2016 (mandatory)

Time Commitment: The Foundation requests you maintain contact with your mentee at least twice every month.

Information about the role

  1. VOLUNTEER TRAINERS FOR THE HEADSTART PROJECT
The HEADSTART project is an educational support and career development project aimed at getting secondary students prepared for the tertiary education system and the entirety of their career phase by enriching them with the skills and tools to manage the demands of the present age tertiary institutions and the labour market.

The target beneficiaries are Senior Secondary Two to Three students. Each class cohort is a maximum of 20 students. The senior secondary school two to three students who enroll on the project will be taken through various stages of training both theoretically and by practical demonstration on skills and personal development initiatives that will empower them to successfully finish their secondary education, prepare them for tertiary education and make them fully endowed personnel in their chosen field of study/career of interest and/or empower them to be employers of labour.

The HEADSTART project will commence with a recruitment for student participants in December 2015. Registration and confirmation of places are expected to be completed in January 2016 with sessions commencing in the second week of January 2016. The duration of the program is 2 months between January and end of February 2016 with the option for a summer workshop commencing in July 2016

Volunteer Trainers at SOS Foundation

The Skills Outside School Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation registered in Nigeria and the UK. They require volunteers for the bridge project. The Bridge Project is a free employability skill building and career mentoring scheme for bright, disadvantaged and motivated senior secondary school one and two students in Government Secondary Schools in Nigeria. 80 students in total are currently enrolled in the project. Volunteer Trainers/Facilitators needed

The Skills Outside School Foundation founded in June 2014 is a not-for-profit organisation domiciled in Nigeria with registered number RC70340. The Foundations’ partners/sponsors are: Root2Fruit, Career Solutions Africa, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Volunteer in Nigeria, FCT Secondary Education Board, FCT Agency for Science and Technology, Alpha Praxis Nigeria Limited, Yaliam Press Limited, White Eagle Productions and Citizenship and Leadership Centre.

They require volunteer trainers for the Bridge Project, an employability skill building and mentoring scheme for bright and motivated senior secondary school students in Government Secondary Schools in Abuja. The pilot phase was executed with Government Secondary School Jabi and Wuse Zone 3 with 20 students in SS1 and SS2 between February and May 2014. A Career Mentoring Open Day on the 28th May 2014 provided a platform through breakout sessions for 25 professional mentors in various industries to interact with the 20 participants.

The skill building aspect of the project develops 5 competencies– leadership, teamwork, communication, problem solving and commercial awareness through a range of activities. The mentoring aspect allows the participants to embark on mapping out their future educational and career paths through the development of their customized Personal Development Plan which incorporates planning, reflection and action towards their future personal and professional development.

START DATE: JANUARY 2015

Description

The role of a Sponsorship and Partnerships Manager offers a unique opportunity for an aggressive salesperson to increase the Skills Outside School Foundations’ sponsorship and strategic partnerships including the Sponsor-A-Child Scheme.

The Manager will manage the day-to-day communication with Skills Outside School Foundations’ existing partners to ensure all contractual rights are delivered, wider sponsorship benefits are secured and long term sponsorship goals are achieved and reported to the Acting President, Executive Council and the Board of Trustees.

The Manager will be responsible for developing the strategy related to the Foundations’ sponsorship programs, including identifying, cultivating, and developing leads and prospects, negotiating contracts and packages, closing deals, and providing account management.

In addition, the Sponsorship Manager will be responsible for supporting all areas of sponsorship renewals and new sales efforts, preparing sponsorship documents and all such correspondence.

Required Skills:
1. Ability to develop strategic, proactive relationships with potential sponsors and corporate partners, and other supporters of the philanthropic community.
2. Big picture strategist and outside of the box creativity.

Description
The Program Coordinator oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of the Skills Outside School Foundations’ ongoing Bridge Project and Professional Mentoring Program including planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the project activities. The Coordinator will primarily plan, execute, monitor and evaluate the Bridge Project and the Professional Mentoring Program. The Coordinator will also manage the liaison with the professional mentors and ensure they are kept up-to-date via newsletters sent every quarter.

The Program Manager should demonstrate competence in some or all of the following:
