Dream Nurture Foundation is organising a free summer lesson program beginning in August at Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Nigeria. They need volunteers and a program director for the six-week free program.

Date: August 1 – September 9, 2016
Classes: Basic 1 – 9

The organisation is recruiting for two roles – Free Summer Lesson Volunteer and Program Director

  1. Free Summer Lesson Volunteer

Purpose: The free summer lesson Volunteer serves as a coach and mentor to children who will be attending the project organized by The Dream Nurture Foundation. You will be supporting the mission of the organization of giving educational opportunities to despondent children.  Volunteers need to be 18 years and above. It is an unpaid volunteer position.

Location:  Market Street, Ebute Metta – popularly known as ‘the beach’

Key Responsibilities:

  • Takes part in fun activities organized for his/her class.
  • Answers questions the children in his/her group may have.
  • The volunteer is astute and able to notice changes in the children, especially those who are doing really well.
  • The volunteer supports the children in his/her group and help boost their self-confidence.
  • The volunteer gives the children opportunities to boost self-reliance and capacity building
  • The volunteer needs to be prepared for each lesson day and have a time table handy.

Reports to: Program Director or positioned representatives in times of his/her absence.

Time Commitment: 9 am – 1 pm every week day. Volunteers NEED TO choose at least 3 days a week when they will be available.

Qualifications:  SSCE School leaving certificate. You should also be friendly, reliable, and trustworthy and have good communication skills.

Support:  The Program Director/ Assistant will be available for questions and assistance. You will always receive ongoing support from the Agency.

  1. Program Director

Purpose: The free summer lesson Program director serves as a coach to children and volunteers who will be attending the project organized by The Dream Nurture Foundation. You will be supporting the mission of the organization of giving educational opportunities to despondent children.

Location:  Market Street (Ebute); Oyingbo.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating volunteers and Children for the summer program.
  • Providing detailed daily and weekly report to the Executive director.
  • Take part in activities happening during the program.
  • Coming up with fun activities for the children.
  • Ensuring volunteers understand their assignments.
  • Manage volunteer database and reporting functions . Follow up with potential volunteers in a timely manner.

Qualifications and Competences

  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to Manage volunteer and or station concerns and inquiries.
  • Ability to support, network and motivate staff, volunteers and clientele.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills .
  • Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships .
  • Committed to the mission of serving seniors and adults with disabilities

Commitment: 8 am – 2 pm every week day. The program director is expected to resume at least an hour early to the site to make sure that everything is in place for the volunteers and the children. This is a volunteer position that comes with a monthly stipend.

Volunteer for ITELP this summer at Ibadan!!!

Mind Alignment Centre (MAC) is a non-profit organisation with the vision to establish a network of value-driven families, aligning them with leadership values to create and sustain ethical and entrepreneurial leadership in Nigeria. Through leadership education, hands-on workshops, counselling, advocacy and active engagement in solving community problems; MAC inspires collaboration and value-driven relationships amongst youths.

The organisation has launched the Ibadan Teenage Entrepreneurial Leadership Programme (ITELP). ITELP is an intensive 100-hour empowerment programme, which will teach 60 teenagers career profiling, Entrepreneurial Leadership (EL) education, service learning projects, prototyping, patriotism and global citizenship education and idea pitching.

ITELP will run at MKO Abiola way, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo state, from 1st August to 2nd September, 2016 between the hours of 10am – 2pm on Monday to Friday.

Volunteers are needed to serve as programme facilitators, using the organisation’s curriculum. Volunteers will be trained on how to deliver the curriculum.

Key responsibilities of volunteers include:
• Self- study lesson guides and prepare/adopt lesson notes
• Facilitate lessons and class readings
• Observe participants’ retention and engagement level
• Guide students through Service Learning Project process
• Act as chaperone on offsite trips
• Assist other facilitators, supervisors and directors in ensuring the delivery of quality learning experience to all participants
• Serve as student advisors and prepare comments on each assigned advisees to be sent to parents/guardians

Volunteers are required to:

  • Possess good communication and collaboration skills
    • Be passionate about young people
    • Be able to guide people in learning and practicing teamwork.
    • Possess good self-mastery and control
    • Be self-driven, energetic, and organised in recording keeping
    • Possess minimum of Diploma in any field

Volunteer at upcoming A4AI-Nigeria coalition meeting

The next meeting of the A4AI-Nigeria coalition is coming up on Monday, July 4th in Lagos.

The Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) is a broad coalition working to enable everyone, everywhere to access the life-changing power of the Internet. The 1st A4AI Nigerian Multi-stakeholder Forum took place on March 11, 2014 in Abuja, Nigeria. The Forum established a Nigerian multi- stakeholder coalition that will contribute towards the government policy to bring affordable Internet access to all Nigerians.

 

Volunteers are needed for the forum, holding in Victoria Island, Lagos, on July 4. They will be involved in managing the registration table and other logistical items. Student volunteers who are interested in ICT policy, technology, access to information, and related areas, are preferred. Volunteers must be resident in Lagos and available for the whole day on Monday, July 4.

New Opening at Root2Fruit Foundation

Root2Fruit Foundation is an NGO focused on positively impacting the education sector in Northern Nigeria. We provide scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and also fund programs that provide skills training in secondary schools. We are seeking a volunteer who can act as an administration/communication officer on a part time basis. Office space will be provided and certain expenses will be covered. The position is based in Wuse 2, Abuja.

 

The volunteer will be involved in administration and communication tasks such as:
• Preparing scholarship documentation and updating student records
• Making filings at Corporate Affairs Commission
• Registering and communicating with potential partner organisations
• Taking minutes during team meetings
• Liaising with website developers to provide content for website
• Conducting relevant research and proposing fundraising ideas
• Responding to enquiries by email or telephone
• Creating and updating social media accounts

 

The candidate should reside in Abuja and be willing to attend meetings with Foundation members. The candidate should be interested in the education sector and be willing to contribute ideas on achieving the group’s goals. ABOUT SKILLS OUTSIDE SCHOOL (SOS) CAREERS

The SOS Careers program will offer preparatory support and guidance to students in tertiary institutions in accessing their chosen career interests. This will be through access to online courses, career simulation games/exercises, professional development training, networking events, CV and cover letter drafting skills, mock interview skills sessions and technical and soft skills training. This program will also aid in placing the participants in internships, shadowing opportunities and insight days in various industries to develop the participants’ commercial awareness and competence skills.

1st Public Art Nigeria April-May 6 sessions

Climate Change in Africa project

Partners: Recycle Points, Wecyclers, Terra Kulture

Students will work with partners to develop a theatre production about Climate Change in Nigeria.

We are looking for mentors who are creative and are available on Saturdays from 10am-5pm. They will need to participate in a training session about Youth Engagement and Child Abuse. They will receive a certificate after completing at least 3 sessions working with the youths in our program. The program will kick off from Ikeja.

Our Saturday programs run on Saturdays from 10am-5pm.

Reading with Parents program:

This program was organized for some of our students whose parents do not know how to read the English language. This program is set up for the year.

This opportunity will be offered once or twice a week for our parents and will be organized based on volunteers availability. Volunteers will be trained on how to teach reading effectively and the program will start in April; running from our Ikeja location.
All mentors/volunteers will need to learn our philosophy when engaging with our youth and adults participating in our programs – a training series is being organized for all new and old mentors. We are facilitating the first of these workshops/trainings on Saturday March 5th starting at 10am. If they should decide to stay on as a mentor after the project is already finished we would be very happy to have them.

Requirements from the mentors are:

– To be on time

– Be enthusiastic about mentoring and volunteering

– Be patient

– Challenge participants to think creatively and differently

– Be present (no phones while volunteering with our organization)

New openings for Abocoders project

The AboCoders project is an initiative of Aspilos Foundation. It aims t0 encourage more girls to venture into STEM fields, bridge the digital divide, improve the quality of education in Nigeria, and consequently, reduce the poverty level in the country.

Its objectives are:
•To encourage the interest of girls in STEM fields
•To increase digital literacy in young girls in Nigeria
•To increase female involvement in the creation of ICT solutions in Nigeria
•To create a community of highly competent female coders who can create secure & sustainable livelihoods

Volunteers are required to start immediately and give a time commitment of at least 6 months. They will be working with young ladies between 15 and 25 years old. The location of the training is in Tunga, Minna, Niger state. Accommodation will be provided for volunteers in Tunga as well.

Job Description
A project officer will be required to carry out these three basic and specific tasks:
1.Train the girls on digital literacy
2. Train the girls on coding
3. Serve as a Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

Asides these fundamental duties, a project officer may be required to carry out other duties all relating to the project such as logistics support and public relations.

A project officer must
•be willing to live in Minna, Niger state, Nigeria, under basic conditions, (accommodation will be provided; electricity and running water will not be constant)
•be passionate about the development of the girl child
•be able and willing to raise funds
•have strong teamwork skills
•be able to commit at least 6 months to the project
Knowledge of programming languages is an advantage
