Opening for International Programmes Volunteer

Salary: Expenses only (travel and daily lunch stipend)

Volunteer Hours:  Three days per week (10.30 am– 5.30pm)
Location: PEN International office in Brownlow House, 50/51 High Holborn, London WC1V 6ER UK
Start date: 22 May 2014
End date: 22 August 2014

SUMMARY OF ROLE
PEN International is looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic and committed individual to support its International Programmes work. The role will involve:

  • Supporting our programme work in the field of civil society and education in particular. Helping to develop and implement a learning and monitoring system for our programmes in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America & Caribbean regions.
  • Communicating the programme results creatively through various channels including social media, electronic newsletter and the PEN International website.
  • Help in preparing, collecting and filing programme documents, including programme proposals and reports (both narrative and financial). Collecting and analysing programme data, feeding programme information into relevant policy areas.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL GAIN:
1. Experience in volunteering for a leading international arts and human rights charitable organisation
2. Improved administrative and office skills
3. A fuller understanding and direct experience of how programme work supports and contributes to policy and literary work and human rights campaigns
4. Experience in programme monitoring and evaluation
5. Developed written, editorial and proofing skills
6. Developed web content management skills
7. Experience in project management
8. Experience in working with programmes and grassroots organisations in the Global South.

Deadline for application: 12 May 2014

Volunteers are selected after a brief interview. A trial period of one month will be required after which either side can reconsider the decision to continue. The International Programmes volunteer will report to the International Programmes Officer and the International Programmes Director and work closely with other members of the PEN team. This is an unpaid volunteer post. PEN International will cover travel costs within reason, as well as contribute to lunches.
