They will need 5 (five) volunteers on the day of the event for registration/protocol duties. The event is for December 5th, 2013 at the Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos

However, there would be a compulsory meeting tomorrow at their office at Ijora, Lagos by 11am.

Hello family!In our passionate quest to make life better for people, we have encountered countless young people who have no idea what to do with their lives during a waiting period. Examples of waiting periods include the current strike period which has lingered for about one two three FOUR months. I try not to think that four months is one-third of a year but every time I put my brain back on, I realise that’s a dangerous amount of time for a youths to remain idle (in -ember period).In fact, a little bird told me you felt crime rates spike.

We chose to feel enormous pressure during this past four months. What we did? We put in great and resilient effort into creating more opportunities for engagement and keeping our community abreast of meaningful information on workshops and other career development events. The result? Many of our members confess we have made the period easier to handle! Events like the Unilever campus workshop and LEAP/SNEPCO Youth Empowerment Programme saw very many of us in attendance. Currently, a number of us are on the Huawei ICT training programme or registered for the next batch. Have you registered? We were also able to get quick unpublished jobs for some from friends of our project. Have you enjoyed any of these opportunities? Kindly leave us a comment.

In the spirit of the International Volunteer Day to be celebrated December 5, we are asking university students to volunteer to share what they have been doing since the  universities’ strike began with us. We also welcome other people who have witnessed waiting periods to tell us how they productively seized the season. This includes professionals at all levels and former university students. Do you know anyone going through a waiting period? What advice did you give?

We believe that sharing experiences is a great way to influence attitude and help others deal with the ‘situation’ a waiting period can be.

Mercy Corps is recruiting Enumerators for Mapping of Marginalised Girls

Mercy Corps is the lead implementing partner for the Empowering Nigerian Girls in New Enterprises (ENGINE) program to reduce financial and education barriers for marginalized Nigerian adolescent girls ages 16 to 19.

ENGINE will increase girls’ access to
(1) financial education and leadership/transferable skills;
(2) peer-to-peer networks and mentors; and
(3) direct assets (materials and savings).

ENGINE will integrate adolescent girls into value chains as well as conduct other market-driven employment opportunities. ENGINE will also work with girls in formal and informal education to increase their learning opportunities and outcomes to prepare them for future economic activities.

ENGINE will be implemented in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, and Kano and Kaduna States.

Project Title:  Enumerators for Mapping of Marginalised Girls

Project Location(s) :  Kano, Kaduna, FCT, Lagos

Timeframe:  25th November – 4th December, 2013

Purpose / Project Description
Mercy Corps will be carrying out a mapping of marginalised girls across the four states, to identify which girls meet the marginalisation criteria for the program. Enumerators are needed to gather this data in partnership with the local implementation partners for ENGINE in each state.

Qualifications

  • Enumerators must currently reside in either Kano, Kaduna, FCT or Lagos, and should additionally reside within the specific LGAs mentioned below or have specific knowledge of the LGAs:
    • Kano – Kumbotso, Tarauni, Dala, Ungogo, Fagge
    • Kaduna – Zaria, Sabon Gari, Chikun, Kudan, Makarfi, Kaura
    • FCT – Kwali, Kuje, Abuja
    • Lagos – Kosofe, Somolu/Bariga, Epe, Ojo, Alimosho, Ibeju-Lekki
  • Enumerators should have a relevant undergraduate degree (or be currently completing a degree)
  • Enumerators should have experience in data collection and community sensitization.

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is a Nigerian non-governmental organization working to encourage Nigerian girls and women to use information and communication technology (ICT) to empower themselves socially and economically. This is done through technology literacy training, technology-based projects, mentoring, work placement and research. W.TEC works in partnership with local and international NGOs, educational and research organizations.They are happy to explore flexible volunteering conditions – such as working hours, duration of volunteering and deadlines – for all our supporters.

W.TEC particularly requires expertise in areas that include, but are not limited to:

Volunteers needed at iDea Hub, Calabar

The iDEA Incubation Centre in Calabar is calling for volunteers based in Calabar to take part in a Google Map Up (Geo Walk and Photo Walk) scheduled for November 18-22.
Technical training will be provided for volunteers to equip them for this exercise. They will also be introduced to free Google products.
Transportation and lunch arrangements have been made and more information will be communicated to you after we have sent your details.

Openings at Friends Africa

Are you in Lagos, diligent and interested in volunteering with an International NGO for a worthy cause? Volunteers are needed for the Super Stars Play for Life Campaign!

 

Project Brief:

Friends of the Global Fund Africa is a Pan-African organization which works to mobilize strategic political and financial support for the fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria through education, multi-sectoral advocacy and documentation. Friends Africa’s work supports the fight against the three pandemics with emphasis on the Global Fund a key funding mechanism in the fight. Friends Africa is requesting for volunteers to help with her upcoming World AIDS Day “Super Stars Play for Life campaign and Novelty Football Match. This project is aimed at fighting the discrimination and stigmatization of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) through celebrity advocacy. The event will bring together former Nigerian Super Eagle stars (Team Footballers) and a crop of Nigerian Celebrities from the music, acting, comedy and on-air personality industries (Team Entertainers) to play football.

 

Schedule of Events:

Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT): Friends Africa in partnership with its technical partners will be providing free VCT services to the general public from Monday 25th – Friday 29th November 2013. This phase involves daily mobilization of people from the surrounding streets and offices.

Team: Mobilization

When: Monday 25th Friday 29th November 2013 (9am – 5pm each day)

Qualification: Knowledgeable/experienced in public health (not compulsory), ability to sing, dance or act Responsibility: Mobilization of the general public to the VCT venue, coordination and registration of people at the VCT centre

Age Range: 18 30 years

 

Pre-Event Dinner: Friends Africa will host a dinner on the 29th of November to appreciate its partners for this project. This will be followed by the Novelty Football Match the following day. The following are areas where volunteers will be needed:

Team: Ushering and Protocol When: Friday 29th November 2013

Qualification: well behaved and mature individuals with ushering/coordinating experience Responsibilities: Assist with welcoming and sitting guests, taking their orders at the event

 

Novelty Football Match: The main event holds on the 30th of November (9am – 6pm) with over 2500 people in attendance. The following are areas where volunteers will be needed:

Team: Ushering and Protocol

When: Saturday 30th November 2013

Qualification: well behaved and mature individuals with ushering/coordinating experience Responsibilities: Coordinate the sitting arrangement at the stadium, assist people with information needs, maintain order, and welcome guests at the event.

 

Team: Registration, IEC Distribution, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) When: Saturday 30th November 2013

Qualification: Anyone that is friendly and responsible, can cope with large number of people and well-coordinated. Responsibilities: Registration of everyone in attendance on the 30th, distribution of Information, Education and Communications (IEC) Materials, distribution of M&E forms and assisting people to get it filled

Team: Hospitality

Qualification: People with waiting/waitressing experience, as well as mass distribution skills Responsibilities: Serving refreshment at the event and any other back-up services

Please Note: All events would hold at the Campos Square Mini Stadium, off Catholic Mission Street, Lagos Island, Lagos. Also, ensure you would be available for openings you choose.

Volunteer for W.TEC / ADOBE Youth Voice Workshop 2013

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre is a Nigerian non-governmental organization since January 2008, working to encourage Nigerian girls and women to use information and communication technology (ICT) to empower themselves socially and economically. This is done through technology literacy training, technology-based projects, mentoring, work placement and research. W.TEC works in partnership with local and international NGOs, educational and research organizations.

W.TEC / ADOBE Youth Voice 2013 (Create with a Purpose Program) is a Film Production Workshop for secondary school girls.

 

Description: Workshop Volunteer

Workshop Volunteer Qualities:

  • Preferably a lady of age (20- 28)
  • Must be a resident of either Lagos Island or Mainland only.
  • Must have a passion to working with youth (GIRLS)
  • Must be an individual of high integrity
  • Must be available 2pm – 6pm, Monday to Friday

Skills and Qualification

  • The individual must at least be an Undergraduate or higher
  • The individual must be computer savvy
  • The individual must  have knowledge or experience of film production( taking pictures, shooting films and editing)
  • The individual must have an idea of film editing with either Adobe premiere elements or windows film maker.

Workshop Volunteer Job Duties:

  • Will work with lead facilitator in conducting training sessions
  • Will assist workshop participants with their technical challenges
  • Will help lead facilitator with technical computer jobs
  • Will help participants with their editing challenges
  • Will contribute to training session
  • Will  facilitate workshops
  • Will liaise with school authorities on behalf of W-TEC for various admin issues.
  • Could be mobilised to assist with other W.TEC duties within the Workshop period
