This second edition of TENT Gathering will host young techies, tech professionals, academia, media and investors at the Lagos State E-learning Centre on Odunlami Street, Lagos, Nigeria, from Tuesday, November 26 through Thursday, 28, 2013.

The event’s first day will focus on general presentations about technology opportunities, including leading keynotes from Simdul Shagaya (Konga.com, DelaDey) and Mario Valles (Electronic Arts) while the second day will focus on the dual theme of Techie and Entrepreneurial and the final day will focus on Nigerian and Talented.

The theme for the second edition of TENT Gathering is Competence. Collaboration. Competition. The sessions mentioned above are described further below.

Registration/Welcome: 300 participants are expected from across all Nigeria (especially tertiary institutions), and the morning session will help them settle in with presentations and video screenings focused on the TENT theme and why young Nigerians can turn the unemployment disadvantage and evident passion into an opportunity for technopreneurship.

Keynotes: Keynotes will be delivered by Nigerian, regional and global experts on the subjects that surround the theme: technology opportunity, technology capacity building, entrepreneurship opportunities, investment, product/service exposure, etc. For 2013, we bring you the founder of some of Nigeria’s leading eCommerce companies, Konga.com and DealDey.com, Simdul Shagaya, and an investor who works with Silicon Valley’s Electronic Arts, Mario Valles.

Innovation Clinics: In partnership with Innovation Hubs across Nigeria, participants will be exposed to best practice examples – of both success and failure – so they can ask practical questions about their on-going projects and get help from the hub managers.

Techie: Featuring 3 amazing speakers who know what it means to be techies in Nigeria, the morning of Day 2 will have sessions followed by an opportunity for questions, that will drill better into the theme.

Entrepreneurial: Featuring 3 amazing speakers who know what it means to be entrepreneurs in Nigeria, the afternoon of Day 2 will also have sessions followed by a panel discussion that will discuss the practical and fine details of the theme.

Nigerian. Talented: The final day will focus on demos – of products and services – by young techies who hope to use the opportunity to TENT Gathering to launch (or re-present) their products/services. Participants will be sourced from TENT Workshops and the university programs (focus on TENT@GreatIfe for 2013).

Investors and Mentor Panel Feedback: A panel of investors and mentors will listen to the presentations and give feedback that can help presenters improve their product/service; request for additional meetings or announce support for projects that catch their attention; or a combination of both feedback and support. This session is extremely important to the success of TENT Gatherings because participants will either use feedback to get better or use support (investment, etc) as route to market.

The Taiwo Bankole Ogunyemi Prize:  The TAIWO BANKOLE OGUNYEMI Prize goes to the leading team that wins the Clash of Campuses contest at TENT Gathering. Teams from various tertiary institutions present a leading product they (or a member of their team) has worked on to a panel of judges who decide winners based on product relevance, potential for impact, demonstrated use of appropriate technology and the wow factor, among others.

a conference that exposes young people to the benefits of entrepreneurship,

The Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO) is looking for volunteers to help out on a mobilization and sensitization project periodically from now till December 2013.

Volunteers need to:
·Have good proximity to or living around Egbeda, Akowonjo axis of Lagos State

·Be available for at least 5 hours in a row each day
.Be able to speak fluent English, other Nigerian languages desired as well

· be energetic and have a positive attitude
·be responsible, reliable, friendly and resourceful
·be available to attend a training course
·Have minimum of HND or BSc

They are offering:
·A mandatory training course for volunteers
·Refreshments during field exercise
·Volunteer shirts
·Free entry to NNNGO workshops and conferences
· Free learning opportunity in areas where the volunteer wants to develop personally

List of tasks and desired characteristics for Volunteers

Communications Assistant (Online Engagement):
Graphics design, post information on the NNNGO Facebook page, updating the project and NNNGO website

Good at using CorelDraw, Photoshop, Facebook, MS. Word, basic HTML a plus.
Communication Assistant (Field Engagement):
Create calendar of field visits, contact stakeholders on field visits, map out streets and public places for sensitization and mobilization.
Able to use Microsoft office suite, need to be very organized and able to communicate effectively using emails and telephone

 

Data Assistant:
Regularly update the NNNGO and project database.
Able to use Microsoft excel.

 

Logistics Assistant:
Arrange for materials and tools to be used for sensitization, make arrangement for refreshments etc

Needs to know the Lagos metropolis very well, ability to negotiate
Project Assistant:
Hand out posters and flyers, obtain feedback from field contacts

Must have strong communication skills, computer literate and meticulous
Administrative Assistant:
Help with administrative tasks related to the project

Needs to be meticulous, strong understanding of accounting principles.

Advocacy, Training & Support for Replicable and Scalable Community Projects

About LEAP Africa

Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability and Professionalism (LEAP) Africa is a non-profit organization committed to developing dynamic, innovative and principled African leaders. Since 2002, through its core Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) and Annual Nigerian Youth Leadership Awards (ANYLA), LEAP has advanced the cause of youth-led communtiy consciouness for development in Nigeria. Over 30,000 youth have been trained on LEAP’s core youth leadership curriculum, while 65 social change makers have been recognised and celebrated through the ANYLA.

Social Innovation Quest
The Social Innovators Programme (SIP) will support talented youth between the ages of 18 and 29, whose ideas and initiatives offer effective solutions to challenges in local communities across Nigeria, with the necessary training, funding, advocacy and network support required to strengthen their existing initiatives and enhance their sustainability and impact.  Through the programme’s partnership with the International Youth Foundation’s YouthActionNet® programme (www.youthactionnet.org), young innovators will become members of a global network of over 880 change-makers from 70+ countries. Over three months, LEAP will provide selected youth with training and support based on YouthActionNet’s curriculum focused on the “Six Dimensions of Leadership” (Personal, Visionary, Collaborative, Political, Organizational, and Societal).

SIP objectives are to:

  • Identify, encourage and support
  • Showcase their impact on local communities
  • Provide international recognition for local change-makers and access to international funding opportunities
  • Connect Nigerian change-makers to their peers around the world for shared learning

Do you qualify?

Applicants must meet the following entry requirement to be considered for the awards. They must be:

  • Nigerians resident in Nigeria (not Nigerians in the Diaspora).
  • Between ages 18 – 29 years.
  • Initiators#
  • Able to document and prove their work, benefits and some level of sustenance amongst communities and Nigeria for a minimum of 12 months prior to date of application for the
  • Able to document and prove their work, benefits and some level of sustenance amongst communities and Nigeria for a minimum of 12 months prior to date of application for the SIP.

Twenty (20) social innovators will be enrolled into the programme after screening (an application form will be made available to interested applicants). The SIP will be offered free of charge. Participants will undergo two different 5-day trainings within a 6 month interval. The programme covers cost of accommodation, road travel, feeding and daily stipends.

Openings at CCSF Abuja

EVENT FLYER

Chika Chukwumerije Sport Foundation (CCSF) is an Abuja-based NGO that uses sports as a tool of development to empower individuals.

They would be needing  volunteers to help out with their 2nd International Taekwondo Opens which aims to feature dignitaries from around West Africa.

Meetings will be held on 15th & 16th October 2013. Venue is the Korean Cultural Centre on the 15th of October 2013, and Sheraton Abuja Hotel on the 16th of October 2013.

WHY YOU SHOULD VOLUNTEER

NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY: The quality of participation is across 8 countries, 24 Nigerian States, and other key institutions like the Nigeria Police, and Paramilitary Units [Immigrations, Customs and NSCDC]. With a rich diversity of Nigerian and West African community coming, this is a great way to make new friends and explore fresh opportunities.
2. BE PART OF RIO 2016 OLYMPIC DISCOVERY: They were both discovered through CCSF events like this. We expect to unearth more talented youngsters for the 2016 Global event. By volunteering this event, your contributions would help streamline activities that would make our discovery hunt more successful.
3. MEETING BUDDING AND NATIONAL SPORTING STARS: Taekwondo might not be football, but it certainly has its share of colourful, interesting and enigmatic budding stars. You might never know who you take a picture with that would be future Olympic Gold Medallist or World Champion.
4. HAVE FUN: Abuja has already thrown everything that it has in terms of fun and entertainment. Even though, these activities still keep us entertainment, an event like this could bring a fresh lease of energy to our interest levels, and provide just the difference we all look for sometimes.
