Today I remember there is a world where there are many channels to surf through, myriads of programmes and droves of activities. The world of Television! I have been totally inexistent to this world. Is that a good thing? Oh it’s not too good? Or bad? How many hours do you put in for television?

The rule of thumb is knowing what gets you where you desire to go. If your habits and daily activities cannot get you where you really want to go with your life, then alas! Do you need to be told who your greatest enemy is?

Lagos World Record Toothbrushing Challenge needs more volunteers

Hello Lagos!

The Toothbrushing Challenge is a health promotions event culminating in a World Record attempt now slated to hold on July 4th for the greatest number of people brushing their teeth simultaneously in multiple locations. The target is 300,000 people in over 300 locations.

 

DUTIES OF VOLUNTEERS

PRE-EVENT:

  1. To visit the school you have been assigned to
  2. To see the nuclear team in each school- the nuclear teacher, the principal, the best 3 science students (or any 3 other students selected by the nuclear teacher)
  3. To explore, discuss and troubleshoot problems and challenges in each school prior to the record day
  4. To supervise the bottle collections for the Toothbrushing model, and the pack collection by Close-up, Unilever campaign
  5. To ensure that a mock version of the record breaking occurs a week before the event using 10 students to demonstrate the record breaking
  6. To ensure that the electronic devices to be used for counting and recording the adolescents that will be brushing at the various schools 48hrs before the event (July 2nd)
  7. To revise the brushing model to fit each school’s contexts- paper funnel,  connected to dark  polystyrene bag (nylon), the collected empty plastic bottles, the toothpaste and toothbrush, and water (to brush with).
  8. To ensure the Toothbrushing model is working the day before

EVENT

  1. To be at your assigned school (or duty post) on time 7:30am on the day of the world record attempt
  2. To address the students and make sure they understand the start & stop commands for the record breaking attempt and
  3. To facilitate/ supervise the accreditation or counting and recording process for the participants (students)
  4. To follow the events of the day based on the program of events going on at the Teslim Balogun stadium
  5. To  ensure the assembly of the students in the toothbrushing position at the assembly grounds/ hall for 5-10 minutes before the  start time of the record breaking attempt
  6. To position the principal and nuclear team to the start-stop commands and time appropriately (1 minute)
  7. Ensure the proper disposal of the funnel and silage (what would be spat out when the students finish brushing their teeth) in the appropriate LAWMA bags
  8. Facilitate the removal/ clearance of the LAWMA bags by the LAWMA agent within 12-24hrs of the event
  9. Ensure the return of the devices to the project office in Lagos-Island within 24hrs of the completion of the project.

POST-EVENT

  1. To attend the celebration party of the record-breaking
  2. To receive your certificate of participation
  3. To take your picture for the project records
  4. And write a report on your experience in the project

We have been informed by Solva Global Business Consulting, the organiser of this event, of the need for a volunteer who is very familiar with cameras to take photographs and record short videos at this event. Device will be provided and report time is 11am. We advise that the volunteer has a camera as well to take shots and videos for his/her personal portfolio. This presents a great opportunity for somebody starting up a career in the creative industry or a newbie photography/video coverage entrepreneur (if he/she remembers to take his/her business card, … (pay for consulting hahaaahaa) etc).

Openings for National Youth Leader’s Summit 2013

Hello Lagos!

National Youth Leader’s Summit 2013 holds on June 21, 2013 at Protea Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos state. The theme is  ‘Today’s Leader, Tomorrow’s Future (Synergizing And Harnessing Our Strength For A Better Tomorrow).
Keynote Speaker: Professor Tam David West.
Chairman of the occasion: Mr. John Momoh (Chairman, Channels TV).
Others speakers are : Seun Anikulapo Kuti, Yinka Odumakin, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, Iretiola Doyle, Alibaba and Kwami Adadevoh.
The summit is targeted at youth leaders from the 36 states of the Federation and Abuja. It is geared towards getting the leaders to sit down together and forge a common front in taking affirmative action in birthing change through the ballot box come 2015 and beyond.
We have been contacted by the National PRO of National Youth Alliance,  the summit organiser. Volunteers would be expected to report at 9am and they are to help with protocol duties at the summit.
